Visa Procedures

All foreign tourists traveling to Bhutan must arrange all-inclusive package tours organized by an agent. The Royal Government of Bhutan does not grant tourist visa to independent and individual travelers.
TOURIST VISA
The Bhutan Government issues visas to all tourists on arrival in the Kingdom. Passport details should be forwarded to the tour operator in advance, which will be handle by them and visa clearance will be send to you. You will not be permitted to board the plane for Bhutan unless visa clearance has come from Thimphu. The visa costs US$ 20 and must be paid in cash on arrival at the Paro airport or by land at Phuntsholing.

If you have received a fax copy of your visa authorization, it is useful to bring a copy with you in case of confusion at the Druk Air check-in counter or at the visa counter at Paro airport. The authorization letter has a reference number that can help the authorities find their copy of the authorization letter. Your passport is stamped with actual visa at the port/boarder of entrance to Bhutan against the payment of cash US 20 with 2-passport size photographs. Extra copies of photos will be an advantage.
